5th Place Finish on August 31
After a couple of weeks off, the crew and I were ready to go for the August 31 race at Colorado National Speedway.
The day started off strong with our first practice sets and we were excited about placing second quick in qualifying behind Nathan Gasser #24. Gasser has been strong all season, and it's been fun racing with him.
Then came the dash. We pulled off a 3rd place finish, which we were proud of but didn't quite come out unscathed. We had damage to both the front and back end of the car, that needed to be fixed before the main event. Thanks to my stellar crew, we got it fixed up and ready to go with time to spare.
Ahead of the main, we made a number of changes to the car to find a little more speed. With a full points invert, we headed to the back of the pack for the start. I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect starting from the back of the pack - and I was nervous when it took us three restarts to complete the first lap - but hey, that's racin'.
We raced through the pack for the a 30 lap main event, and pulled off a 5th place finish. The changes we made didn't quite pan out how we hoped, but it was still a great race for us.
While we had hoped for better than a 5th place finish, I think it's worth mentioning that we have a lot to be proud of. Considering the year we've had so far... what a feeling to be dissapointed by a 5th place finish. We are learning more about the car each race, and for my first season behind the wheel of the GAM, I am confident that we'll only get better from here.
Thanks to the fans for coming out to watch and cheer me on, and my crew and all of our sponsors for making this possible. Special shout out out to MADCAP Racing Engines for joining us in the pits, as well as Tim Cooper and Mark Buehrle for working on the body and getting it straightened out before the main event. Last but not least, thanks to our extended family in the grand stands this past weekend!
