Ending the 2024 Race Season
On Thursday, September 19, the 21 GAM Team headed out to Colorado National Speedway for a quick practice session. In just a few hours at the track, we made huge progress, figuring out an error that we'd been making for the last several race weekends. With that, we headed into race day, Saturday, September 21, feeling confident and excited that the car was back where we had it earlier in the season.
We had a wicked fast car during the practice sessions. I was able to drive the car exactly how I needed to and pulled off some ultra fast laps. Going into the main, the sky started looking ominous but I was focused and ready to go. Yet again, with the full points invert, we started in the back, trying to race through the field.
I got tied up in a mess or two, even getting caught up with my buddy (and points leader, Nathan Gasser) but thankfully, we got through mostly unscathed. The car was super fast, I just wasn't able to get through traffic as fast as I needed to in the 20 laps we had. We ended with an 8th place finish.
Although I was feeling confident ahead of the second main, unfortunately, the rain came and the rest of the night got called.
At first, I was disappointed to not have one more go at the points championship - and if I'm being honest, I still am. BUT after sleeping on it, I have a fresh perspective.
At the start of this season, I had one goal: finish each race. And I did. Not only that, I was a true contender. We started the season with a win and each race was a learning experience. We raced hard - I was happy and angry, we had high highs and low lows - and it took a tribe.
The fresh perspective is this... I am walking away from my first season in the GAM as Rookie of the Year and second place in championship points. A hell of a lot more than simply finishing each race.
After racing the majority of my life, I know I have the passion, the determination, but none of this would be possible without my parents. To my mom and dad, thank you. Thanks for sacrificing so much to allow me to follow my dreams and race for all of these years.
Dad, there's no one I'd rather do this with. You're one of my best friends and I am thankful for all you do. You carry us, so often. Thank you.
And mom, there's not enough ways to say thank you for all you do. From snacks in the trailer to celebration beer in the cooler to a clean race suit each weekend. Both dad and I can only do what we do, because of you.
I can't forget Gramps. From the start, you've been one of my biggest supporters. Between driving cross country in the motor home for quarter midgets and never missing shop night, thank you.
We'd be here all day if I thanked everyone that made this possible. But I want to say thanks to Logan Graybill, who I've known almost the whole time I've driven race cars; Mike Liebendorfer and Chris Moauro, who never miss a shop night and put blood, sweat and tears into each race weekend. I also have to thank my wife, Nicole and my sister, Tiffany for all they do. To Darren Robertson, Tim Cooper, Mike Gallegos and Rick Oster - your support means everything to me. Thank you. Last but not least, my sponsors. If you haven't already, make sure to check out the Sponsor page. Thank you for believing in me and the 21 GAM team and trusting me to represent you well.
I am looking forward to a restful off season, but you can bet that we'll be back next year! Stay tuned and subscribe to stay up-to-date on what we get up to during off season.
