July 4 Race Recap

The July 4 race is one of my favorite all season - the crowd always shows up and brings awesome energy, and last night was no different! Both spectator and pit grand stands were jam packed, and the racing was all around really good. I can't lie, I love watching the sprint cars, plus I do love some good fireworks!
The 21 GAM team started the day with two solid practice sets. Not as fast as we have been previous race weekends, but I felt that we could still show up and be a solid contender. We were on tires from a previous race weekend, but they weren't too bad. We qualified P4, which I was happy with, but I must admit, I am a bit bummed to stop the P1 qualifying streak we'd been on this season.
With a P4 qualifying position, we started the fast dash in P4. The fast dash was good clean racing, and we ended up in 5th position.
I wasn't feeling great about it, but knew the 21 team was doing everything we could to make it happen. As always, the crew does everything to work hard and make it happen.
Then the main event rolled around. We were the first race out, following the firework show and I've gotta admit...it's a pretty cool feeling to be sitting strapped in my race car, watching the awesome fireworks show that the CNS team puts on.

We started on the pole in the main. I was nervous, knowing that although I wanted to have a wicked fast car, it just didn't seem like the car was where we needed it to be last night. Needless to say, I dropped back fairly quickly and ran around P5 all race. We finished P5, which made sense since we were consistently a P5 car all day.
I am proud of the P5 finish, but of course, we hope for and work hard to get the car to a place where we're better than that. So we'll do that again! The 21 team is back at CNS on Saturday, July 19 - and you better bet, we'll be there ready to rumble!

Don't forget, we have lots of 21 merch available for purchase at our trailer each race weekend - both the hats and shirts look awesome this year. All proceeds go directly into the race car!
