Racing Through the Rain: August 15 at CNS

We've checked off another weekend in the books at Colorado National Speedway for the 21 crew. And we had a little bit of everything going for us on the August 15 race.

For starters, we were dealing with sprinkling rain off and on all afternoon and evening. This made for changing track conditions, but still, everyone really wanted to get the show in. We ended up with only one quick practice session, and the car was good; we ran fourth quick. We were holding out hope for better weather ahead of qualifying, and no surprise, the rain started up again as we were headed out. Instead of a standard qualifying session, we were placed based on practice run times. With a fourth-quick time and an invert, we started on the pole for the fast dash.

There's something so exhilarating about starting on the pole of a race. It's a mix of adrenaline, focus, nerves, and excitement, and it didn't let me down! I managed to lead every lap and take home the win of the fast dash. And dang, it felt good.

Onto the main event, the invert had us starting P8, which I gotta tell ya, I was not stoked about. I had a good car, but it had tightened up significantly since the dash. I was able to man-handle it a little, but the car just didn't have it. That, paired with the weird weather, I took home a P6 finish.

Last night, I was feeling really disappointed and frustrated. We packed up the trailer and headed out pretty quick. After sleeping on it, I'm grateful that we brought the car home in one piece. Even though I didn't race the main event how I wanted, we went green-white-checkered, and we didn't bring it home on a wrecker...we're coming out ahead there.
